Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL)
Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), is a 25 kDa protein produced by injured nephron epithelia. It is one of the most advanced new markers of renal epithelial injury. In contrast to serum creatinine and urinary output, which are the normal measures of kidney function, NGAL is specifically induced in the damaged nephron and then released into blood and urine, where it can be readily measured as an indicator of AKI or acute kidney injury. This can range from minor loss of function to complete kidney failure.
The EDELVITAL™ NGAL diagnostic test is a Fluorescent immunochromotographic Assay that assists the clinician or pharmacist with the opportunity of detecting NGAL, providing the earliest diagnosis of (AKI) acute kidney failure, within a 15 minute period.
